Reset Sunday | A Planner Doesn't Always Have to Help Us Plan

Reset Sunday | A Planner Doesn't Always Have to Help Us Plan

A planner doesn't always have to help us plan.

Over the past few days I've been getting ready for our holiday. My travel journal has been open while I've written down the details I'll need before we leave. The pages are ready, and so am I.

Now the planner has a different job.

For a little while, it isn't there to help me organise what's next.

It's there to help me remember what comes next.

I think that's something we don't always think about.

When we buy a planner, we often think about the planning. We think about appointments, reminders, or the pages that help us stay organised. Those things matter, but they aren't the whole story.

A planner can be just as valuable after the planning is finished.

There comes a point where there isn't another list to write. There isn't another page to prepare. The only thing left to do is enjoy what you've spent time getting ready for.

That's where I am today.

My travel journal still has blank pages, and I want them to stay blank for now.

They're not unfinished.

They're waiting.

Those pages will become something much more meaningful once the holiday begins. They'll hold the memories I want to keep, not the plans I've already made.

I've realised I don't want to spend my holiday thinking about filling pages.

I want to enjoy each day, then come back when it feels right and write about the moments I don't want to lose.

For me, that's where a planner becomes something more than an organiser.

It becomes part of the story.

That's also why I enjoy using a discbound planner for travel.

I don't have to decide today how many pages I'll need.

If I come home with more memories than I expected, I can simply add another page.

The planner grows alongside the experiences instead of asking me to fit those experiences into a plan I created weeks earlier.

That flexibility changes the way I think about memory keeping.

There's no pressure to finish everything while life is happening.

The pages are there when I'm ready.

This Reset Sunday, that's the reminder I'm taking with me.

A planner doesn't always have to help us plan.

Sometimes its most important job is helping us remember.
